Thousands of supporters and many of rugby league's greatest legends turned out to support the Mike Gregory Challenge match at his former amateur club, St Pats.
The Carrington Park ground was packed for an emotionally-charged event in September, 2006 as scores of friends, former team-mates and fans gave their backing to the stricken ex-Great Britain captain and Wigan Warriors coach.

A touch-rugby game was the pinnacle of the day when an Old Stars side including Phil Clarke, Denis Betts, Quentin Pongia, Jonathan Davies, Bobbie Goulding, Paul Cullen, Billy McGinty, Mark Preston, Andy Gregory, Joe Lydon and Steve Hampson took on a select XIII from St Pat’s, the club that groomed Mike for stardom. Many current stars, including Andy Farrell, Sean O'Loughlin and Brett Dallas, attended the event.

A staggering £25,000 was raised for the Mike Gregory Trust fund and dad-of-two Mike later told the Wigan Observer: "It was an emotional day. The turnout was immense – it was like a sea of people and I never imagined so many would turn out.
“ It meant so much to me and, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thanks to every one of them.”
A raffle, auction and race night crowned a memorable day.
Mike's loving wife Erica added: “It was a really relaxed, family atmosphere and we were really touched by the support.
“ I was worried everyone was going to get soaked, but luckily the rain made way for sunshine and it was a perfect day.”
